Tweeet! Game (oops - Shower) on!

Someone wandering down the hall might have thought he had stumbled upon the south wing of the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame. That was not the case - it was more like a party room
transformed into a gym.
The officials for the event, and the ultimate planners, were two aunts and two cousins. They took every possible basketball reference, and adapted it to be part of the wedding shower.
Even the food reflected the theme - a snack bar for pre-game and half-time refreshments (note the boxes of popcorn and the candy in the basketball crockpot (referred to in a 60th birthday blog in May). There were even basketball cupcakes to have with the tea and coffee after the game.
While this young man delighted us all with an entertaining pre-game show, he couldn't stay for the whole game, and was gone with Grandpa well before half-time. (He needed his beauty sleep before his real birthday tomorrow!)
Some had travelled for many hours, just for the game!

The game was loosely based on the basketball game we all know and love. What was most familiar was the fact that the refs called whatever they felt like calling! We on the orange team did appreciate the sympathetic basket, however!

Here is the bride, all decked out in her practise finery, courtesy of the orange team who whipped the white (bridal party) team!

And here she is saying a few words of thanks to all who spent so much time and energy organizing, and to all who came and played!

First Birthday

It was a beautiful fall day at the "being renovated" cottage, and all were on hand to celebrate the boy's first birthday. Here is a pic of part of the renovations. This is the view from what will be the screened in part to the deck in front of the master bedroom. On the other side is more deck, and new stairs to the dock. Very sturdy!
However, we were all there to celebrate the birthday! Here is the guest of honour, with one of his aunts who complains that she never gets a chance to have some time with the young man. He was whisked away right after this shot, but she did get about 10 seconds!
The maternal aunt and great-grandmother enjoy a few moments on the new deck, in the sunshine.
Oma and cousin and birthday boy spend a couple of minutes with a book.

Here grandpa alternately feeds the young man treats, and helps him reach his birthday balloons!

Finally, it was time for presents! He had many helpers as he "opened" his gifts. I think here he is silently begging his mother not to make him wear a ribbon hat! (He didn't have to)

And now...time for cake and ice cream. He explored the chocolate lion with two fingers, and was quite dainty at first.

Then it was time to take the shirt off and get down to business. I think he liked it!

Yes, he is in the middle of this group, in which most people were more interested in his gifts than was he! He did taste every card, and thoroughly enjoyed the popping balls later on.

It was a great day, and we look forward to many more occasions at this beautiful cottage. There will be more pictures and stories on the Trio's Travels blog, once the camera is located once more!

Grandson's First Sleepover

Our grandson came for his first sleepover last night. He is almost one, and seemed more than ready to spend the night. These pictures are a bit backwards. Here he is with Grandpa in the morning. What a happy guy! He loved Grandpa's orange juice.

Before bath and bed, but after supper, we went for a walk in the OLD wagon. This wagon has been around for about 30 years. A couple of years ago, Grandpa gave it a new coat of paint, so it was ready for the boy after a quick dusting off.
This is actually from another visit, but here he is helping keep the tupperware drawer tidy!

I tried to find a picture of his mom in the wagon, but couldn't find one. However, here she is at about the same age, keeping the cupboards tidy, and driving her car (actually, she had to share it with her brother!)

We had great fun! Both mom and son helped with the party for the engaged couple. We hope this boy comes for more sleepovers!
